Solar PV Maintenance & Monitoring

Monitoring and maintaining your solar assets is a crucial part of the business case for your PV system. If a system fault goes unnoticed for just one week in peak times it could result in several thousand pounds of lost revenue.

Monitoring the optimum performance of your system is vital. Catching a fault immediately is clearly important, but monitoring performance at all times gives early signs to encourage preventative maintenance and prevents outages.

As reliable as our solar PV systems are, external factors can impact on them. There are simple ones;

  • Tripped breaker caused by lightning strike or circuit fault

  • Software failures on inverters

  • Blown DC fuses

  • Rodent damage to cables

  • People simply switching off a breaker and forgetting to turn it on again! (It happens. It really does!)

Through to the more complex and potentially costly

  • Panel degradation over life

  • 'Snail trail' micro cracking within the cell possibly effects the yield

  • DC Cable compression faults

  • DC Earth leakage faults

+ Metering & Monitoring +

Metering and Monitoring - Covering the day-to-day Monitoring and collecting of data from the sites to submit for Feed-in Tariff or for the reporting of investment returns. We subdivide this into metering, monitoring and reporting of performance

Option 1 – Generation Metering only

  • Basic generation metering (can have export metering in addition)

  • Includes access to the online Metering Portal (for client self-reporting of data)

  • Data storage

  • Remote meter reading, basic 'no data received' error reporting

Option 2 - Solar Monitoring Only

  • Access to online solar monitoring portal showing

  • Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Yearly targets and historic performance

  • Temperature of panels / inverters / ambient (if sensor is already installed)

  • Status of Voltages AC/DC, irradiance on site, yield per inverter etc.

  • Offsite diagnosis of issues to cut down on false-positive callouts

Option 3 – Metering & Monitoring merge

  • Generation Metering and Solar Monitoring

  • Includes the above metering Option 1 plus, site data logger with GSM communications for online portal

  • Access to online solar monitoring portal showing

    • Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Yearly targets and historic performance

    • Temperature of panels / inverters / ambient (if sensor is already installed)

    • Status of Voltages AC I DC, irradiance on site, Yield per inverter etc.

  • Enables offsite diagnosis

  • Collation of generation readings for FiT's submissions

  • Error reporting via automated email with error codes for analysis

+ Operations & Maintenance +

Operations & Maintenance (O&M) -Covering annual inspections of the plant, responding to problems on site, preventative maintenance plus management of warranty claims and spares provision / management and installation

Option 1 - Warranty Compliance/ Annual Visit

  • 12 monthly service visit to carry out maintenance in line with manufacturer’s warranty requirements.

Option 2 – Fix & Replace Reactive Maintenance

  • Including the Annual Service Visit, includes reactive maintenance call-outs & Warranty repairs with discounted hourly rate for works & materials at discounted rates

  • Include Solar Monitoring technology to facilitate remote diagnostics

Option 3 - Total Preventative Maintenance (TPM)

  • Full Warranty, Reactive & Preventative Maintenance cover

  • This option allows a client to budget for most expected eventualities within the plan; in most cased this covers all aspects of annualised call outs and costs.

  • Includes all aspects of Metering, Monitoring & TPM
